IMATS Sydney: Survival Guide

This is based on my experience at IMATS, so don’t take this as gospel. Also every IMATS is different so some of this stuff might not even apply to your closest IMATS show, but its probably the best I’ve come up for the Sydney IMATS. Also, I spoke to a lot of girls at the show and I’ve collaborated some of what they’ve said.
1. BRING MAKEUP WIPES
This is probably the most common item people were missing but nobody really thought to bring along. Any kind of wipes, baby wipes or makeup wipes. Whatever you prefer, bring it along! I heard that some people were allergic to the certain brands’ makeup wipes so bring whatever works for you. You will be making A LOT of swatches! I promise you!2. MONEY. BRING ENOUGH BUT REMEMBER, YOU DON’T HAVE TO SPEND IT ALL
Compared to some girls what I took to IMATS was quite tame. I bought a lot but I didn’t spend all my money either. You don’t have to spend every last cent. I heard a few girls say, “I have $50 left, what should I spend it on?” You don’t need to spend it on anything if you’ve got everything you want already.3. WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES & CLOTHING
There will be a lot of standing and walking around. And if you’re wearing heels all day (or find it difficult to stand around for long periods of time) don’t wear heels. Dress practical. I know its all very exciting to wear something fancy but you’ll be wearing it ALL DAY. Make sure you won’t be playing with it too much.4. BE FRIENDLY!
Talk to people, smile, strike up conversations, swap Twitter names and keep in touch. The easiest way you can expand your own knowledge of makeup is to speak to other beauty junkies. It will be even more exciting to see them the following year. Its also great to support each other if you have blogs or a YouTube channel.5. BE PATIENT
Because you will be doing a lot of waiting around, particularly in lines for purchases. There are a lot of lines and only so many girls to take your orders. But use this time to meet other people.6. TAKE PHOTOS OF EVERYTHING!
Take photos of booths, people getting their makeup done, the speakers, people’s makeup – EVERYTHING! Its a great way to be inspired.7. PACK FOOD & WATER
Mainly water. Food can be expensive at the show so it can be an idea to pack some food.8. BRING A PEN & PAPER
To right down brand names, websites, product names/numbers and even to exchange information with other people you may meet at the show.
Also, if you have business cards for your blog, bring them as well.9. SEE THE STAGE SHOWS
You will be inspired! Some workshops have great giveaways and its good to way to learn new makeup tips and tricks. Also there are a lot of “Back to Basic” sideshows which is great as a refresher.10. HAVE FUN!
Everyone who goes have these basic things in common: We love makeup and we’re all artists. Enjoy it! Its just like Christmas, it only comes around once a year.
